W. Frank Blair Award Competition

for excellence in written data presentation

 

W. Frank BlairA cash award of $500 will be made by the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute (CDRI) for the best paper by a student, published or unpublished, pertaining to the natural sciences including anthropology and archeology, and the Chihuahuan Desert region. The award honors the memory of Dr. W. Frank Blair, a noted zoologist and the first Chairman of the distinguished CDRI Board of Scientists.


Competition Rules

  • Undergraduates and graduate students are eligible. Entries can be made at any time of the year as long as the author or authors are registered full-time students at the time of entry.
  • All papers must pertain to the natural sciences (life and earth sciences, and anthropology and archeology) and the Chihuahuan Desert region.
  • All papers must be based on original research conducted primarily by the entrant.
  • Papers must be no longer than 7,500 words.
  • Papers are to be typed in English, double-spaced, on one side of 8 1/2 X 11" paper.
  • An original including original figures and tables, and three (3) copies of each complete manuscript submitted are required.
  • Joint authorship is acceptable if all authors are registered students at the time of entry in which case the award will be divided among the authors.
  • All entries must be accompanied by a letter from the appropriate department chairman which certifies the author or authors status as a full-time student at the time of entry.
  • All entries will be judged on merit and compliance to the established rules of the competition. Entries not awarded prizes may be resubmitted in the original or revised form the following year provided the entrants still qualify as students at the time of resubmission.
  • All entries must be postmarked no later than November 1 each year. The winner will be announced annually on or before January 15.
