About Nature Notes
Nature Notes was sponsored by the Meadows Foundation and the Dixon Water Foundation and was produced in conjunction with Marfa Public Radio.
Why do rattlesnakes rattle and hummingbirds hum? How do flowers market themselves to pollinators? Why do tarantulas cross the road?
From 2007 to 2011, Nature Notes investigated questions like these about the natural world of the Chihuahuan Desert region on Marfa Public Radio. Through interviews with scientists and field recordings, Nature Notes revealed the secrets of desert life. Episodes were also published as bi-weekly columns in the Big Bend Sentinel, Jeff Davis County Mountain Dispatch, Big Bend Gazette, and Sul Ross State University Skyline.
Episodes were narrated by host Dallas Baxter and written by Nature Notes Coordinator Megan Wilde, as well as CDRI staff and volunteers.
