Botanical Gardens
There is a way that nature speaks, that land speaks. Most of the time we are simply not patient enough, quiet enough, to pay attention to the story.
Linda Hogan
Our botanical gardens, set under the open skies of the Chihuahuan Desert, are quiet enough for you to hear nature speak. You’ll smell the story of how the desert willow attracts her pollinators. You’ll listen to the ground squirrel sing its song and be enthralled when you discover how plants survive in the desert.
Specialty Gardens and Collections
Plants native to the Chihuahuan Desert region are highlighted in four specialty gardens and collections:
- Woody trees and shrubs in the Arboretum grow in a matrix of native grasses and wildflowers.
- The Wildscape Garden provides food, shelter, and water for a variety of wildlife.
- The Pollinator Garden is abuzz with native bees, butterflies, moths, hummingbirds, and other pollinators all summer long.
- The Cactus & Succulent Collection features over 200 species of cacti and succulents from the Chihuahuan Desert region.
